You ask why a retired member of the Armed Forces would want to retire here in Fremont County. I was stationed on the East Coast, Mediterranean, Great Britain and Cuba. But when I visited Colorado I just couldn't see enough of it. The mountains and skies just filled me with awe, especially Fremont county. Who could believe the weather, Canon City especially with its even temps and lower amounts of snow. The people that I have met are friendly. The fishing is great. Hiking in the mountains or valleys is undescribable. It is a great place to live. Come see for yourself. Once, you visit it will be hard to leave.

Before our move here we requested information from the Chamber of Commerce of all of Fort Carson's surrounding communities. Fremont County stood out from the rest. It is still within driving distance from Fort Carson, yet far enough away to relax, all in a small town with an amazing atmosphere. Excellent schools for our daughters and plenty of employment opportunities for myself. Within a week, we found the beautiful home we wanted, with a price we could afford and I found a new job.
Everyone in town was very helpful with finding a new dentist, registering for school and all those small jobs that need to be done after every move. Our county has wonderful recreational opportunities, from walking on the Riverwalk to hiking up the Wet Mountain and Sangre de Christo trails. The Recreation District offers a variety of sports for children and for adults. |
In our time here we have seen new stores, restaurants and a movie theater open. Our daughters both graduated from High School and both have attended the Fremont Campus of the Pueblo Community College, a small campus, attentive to providing a quality education with small classes.
Fremont County has a firm commitment from their Early Childhood Network to provide the highest quality of childcare, pre-school, special education and mental health services for our youngest citizens. In your search for a new home I hope that you will visit our county, and find all the great things that make this such a wonderful place to live.

Florence is without a doubt the best kept secret in Colorado. The small town quality of life is something you won't find elsewhere in the Colorado Springs area. Home prices here are readily affordable to young military families and the school system is outstanding, from the day care facilities to the brand new high school. I am always comfortable leaving my family here, something I can't say about bigger cities such as Colorado Springs. You also won't find a more beautiful commute to Ft. Carson. As a former Active Duty soldier, I encourage you to visit Florence and see for yourself what it has to offer you and your family.
