How long a walk is it from the Sahara Hotel to Fremont Street in Las Vegas?

I noticed the monorail goes to Sahara. So I’m wondering if Fremont is within reasonable walking distance, or if we should drive there…

    google map it

  2. No its a fair trek I would guess at least 40 minutes walk but more than that the area between the Northern end of the Strip and Fremont street is not a place you want to be. Its safe enough in the day but its not nice I would not walk it day or night.

  3. I have actually made this walk, and it definately takes awhile. I would say approx 40 – 45 minutes. I would recommend either taking the Deuce (public transportation)(5$ for a 24 hour pass) or a taxi.

If you do decide to take the Deuce I would not travel between the hours of 7-9am and 3-6 pm due to the high volume of people on the roads during rush hour.

    Hope this helps.

The daytime temp here is now about 110 degrees — it is approximately 25 blocks from the Sahara Hotel to Fremont Street, and the walk will take you through the edge of the “Naked City” which is a high crime area at the foot of the Statosphere Casino. It is not a pretty walk and unless you can’t afford any other means of transportation, you would be foolish to try it, especially at this time of year. Check out the Deuce which is a double decker bus that runs up and down Las Vegas Blvd.

  5. Too far to walk. Its probably 2 miles or so, but in this heat, it will seem like 100. You can take a CAT bus downtown. Or better, drive if you have a car. You can park in the valet parking at any of the hotels downtown for free, just tip the valet when you get your car.

  6. Ummm yeah you may want to drive this. Aside from it being a trek (in the HOT heat) the areas you’d need to go thru aren’t all that great!!!! Like REAL shady!!!!

  7. No…The Sahara is on the “Strip”, while Freemont Street is downtown…miles away. You wouldn’t want towalk it. Besides, it gets very hot!

It’s not that far to walk, i have done it so many times. Even in 115 degrees weather, don’t run it by all means. Walk at a good pace and make sure you have a bottle of water, it should take you about 30-35 minutes. As the evening goes on, it won’t be as hot, just don’t go walking around that area a lone at night. I would say it’s within reasonable walking distance, but then again being from Europe. We are all use to walking…………..

  9. well if you are just trying to save money, I’d suggest taking the Duece… its 2 bucks for a one way ticket, or 5 bucks for 24 hour pass…

But I have walked from sahara to freemont… we wanted to check out some of the skeezy pawn shops we kept seeing out the deuce window…

It took a while.. probably 45-hour… its really not a bad walk… When we got to Freemont, we were kinda like .. wow, we walked that far?! lol.. and its definately not scary to walk during the day (as others have said) Not sure that I’d do it at night though…

  10. It is 2 miles exactly from Sahara Blvd to Fremont St. Sahara Blvd represents the limits of the city of Las Vegas, as opposed to Clark County.
It is not really a dangerous walk, it is just seedy. The majority of people take the Deuce bus instead. It is one more advantage of the Deuce over the monorail. Once you have a 24 hour pass for $5 you don’t need another ticket to get downtown.
The monorail averages less then 18 mph when you include the stops. When you ride on it you realize how clunky it is. Combined with the distance you have to walk to get from the street to a monorail station, you quickly realize that the whole thing is kind of a waste. When they install the new high tech buses I think the monorail will probably be torn down. The bus probably doesn’t go faster than about 5 mph through the crowded sections (including wait time for loading and unloading).

Unless you want to get robbed or killed on the way, take a taxi or the CAT bus. Those are not safe neighborhoods.
